We recorded this in my old apartment in downtown/midtown Phoenix. We used this old Sears brand electronic drum set. We had to put a pillow under the little coffee table because the neighbors would get mad about the noise and hit the ceiling with a broomstick.
Originally we recorded this to have for our ‘Calculus Tour’ Summer of 2010. Never saw the light of day after that.. until now.
As we finish up in the studio there is a little bit of down time… While rummaging about I found some old recordings from years ago. Whatever should I do with them?! It’s always the weirdest thing listening to recordings of yourself. It’s like somebody is making fun of how you sound except it’s you and that’s the way you really sound. It was fun listening to them anyway…
Lately been hanging out on Last.fm a bunch! It’s like a black hole of music, but in a good way. Many new ideas, and perhaps a bright few months on the road are ahead? I hope so, here’s to a tour very soon! In the meantime I shall finally learn those Millencolin songs I’ve been putting off on guitar as I hide away inside, in the shade and air conditioning from the UNBEARABLE PHOENIX DESERT HEAT!
So things have been pretty quite interesting as of late. Really busy working many jobs and recording our album and finally – creating fun home-brew lighting machines. The picture above was from our show last week with Renee Arozqueta at The Rogue Bar in Scottsdale. It was really a fun time, the people who work there are really nice and wanted to put on a fun show as much as the bands did, so that was cool. We messed with our lighting shenanigans for the first time too BUT – tonight is the big night.
We’re playing at Trunk Space with Bella Ruse, Talisha & the Golden Touch and, Michelle Blades. There will also be the 3rd Friday Art Show on display and our full lighting rig. I hope the energy of how excited we are about this is translating through. We’ve been salivating over all kinds of fancy equipment but choosing to build our own instead. So, I hope you like. See you at the show tonight? Hopefully.
P.S. – Our next show is July 8th at A Shot of Java in Glendale, Arizona. We’ll be playing some odd acoustic materials that shall be very fun to perform. More details later!
Today I’m heading into the studio to finish up Snail Quail’s first full-length album with the world famous Jalipaz (pictured below working magic). He’s recorded some of my favorite albums, most especially every Andrew Jackson Jihad album. People Who Can Eat People holds a special place in me heart as does Can’t Maintain. Desert and Tim have a morbid obsession with Darlin’ I Love You which is very fun to sing in front of the uninitiated.
Me and the guys (Tim and Desert) already spent a day tracking drums, bass, and guitar. The vast majority was all done live. Not for some particular bent towards nostalgia but simply because that’s how we perform best. So far very happy with the results. I can’t wait to finish tracking and hear it all mixed and mastered (!!!). After so long performing these songs on the streets, basements, and art galleries of Arizona and the Southwest it’s very exciting to finally put them in a way that’s easily shared with a wider audience.
Well, I’ve got to get ready for a long day in the studio doing what I love. (:
1.) Because of the GREAT line up. Bella Ruse is abuzz with touring and new music. Talisha writes those songs that slap you in the face with reality and Michelle Blades’ voice makes the birds sing.
2.) We’ll be debuting our BIZARRE! FANTASTICAL! LIVE VISUAL PHENOMENON EXPERIENCE!!! In short, there will be glowing things and surprises that have not yet been experienced…
As far as the flier goes I’m basically in love with it. I used a picture my photographer friend Brandon Cowell took at the dunes in Yuma on a full-moon night using a long exposure. It has an eerie magic feel to it that is just great. I hope to see every one of your brilliant shining faces there.
So I’m pretty stoked about our latest show. And I’ll be honest, part of it is just because I found this rad picture of Bender from Futurama. Also, because we’re trying out this text message thing which should be a fun way to keep in touch with people. You should send us a text (: It would be the radness. Hope to see you guys there, we’re pretty stoked about playing Fixx Coffee Bar again. It’s becoming my new favorite haunt.
This week it isn’t so much about the just the song as it is the artist. So without further ado: Robyn is basically the real deal as far as an artist goes. She’s been releasing music since the mid 90s (disappeared for a few years but is back in full hip band-Coachella status), has a cool sense of humor, sometimes borders on rap/r&b, AND all of her music videos are dope. Also, she’s a Swede. The more Swedish people I meet the more I think they’re awesome in general. Enjoy:
